Commission Guidelines 2016
Alrighty you guys, here's the deal, this past year that I've taken commissions, I've set out to be as strict as I could with references you give me to draw your characters
However, it so turns out that I got REALLY lenient, and even had a little trouble while drawing said characters with references I see to be improper to use, personally...
So I'm gonna crack down on that this year, no exceptions, I don't care, I need usable refs because I'm super anal about getting every detail right!
No worries though, I'll show you what I mean when I ask for a clear reference
__________________________________________
The bare MINIMUM that I need in a reference;
Fullbody (Any view, side view is most appreciated)
Flat colors (So I can get your character's color scheme correct)
Color key (If you have a shaded ref, PLEASE make sure it has a color key!!)
__________________________________________
Other things I would love to see;
Details (Markings, spines, accessories, etc. would be nice)
Multiple views (Helps me to determine how things are positioned, what angles they go, etc.)
Close ups (Maybe you can't normally see a detail, so a close up would work just fine)
Expressions (Maybe your character has ears or frills, or some part of the body that changes when they're angry or sad!)
Any other helpful things! (Any other views, details n such would help me draw your character, maybe your character is a different height versus another that's in the same drawing, help me get it right!)
__________________________________________
What I won't take for a reference;
Drawings with a dynamic pose (Details could be hidden, and the body could be distorted due to the angles)
Shaded drawings without a color key (How the hell do I know the actual colors? Cell shaded are no exceptions either)
Descriptions (I've gone by them before, never again unless I'm requested a design commission)
Halfbody drawings (Why would you give anyone this to use?)
Dragon maker refs (Also applies to any other "create a character" games (Dragon Maker This is the most popular one I get, it's great to use to get an idea what you want in a character, but either way, it's inaccurate and you should have a ref drawn based on the dragon you made, not just use that as a ref))
Sketchy Refs (If the ref is super messy, can barely make out the design, don't give me it)
Group drawings (Give me a drawing with multiple characters in it and tell me which one to draw, and I'll say no)
__________________________________________
I'll make exceptions for;
Shaded refs (Only if they have a color palette, it's not heavily detailed, and it's the only thing you have)
Traditional refs (Only if they have flat colors, and I can still see everything clearly)
Half assed refs (Quickly done references that show obscurrities to the body because of how quickly they were made (If it's a recognizable species, character, thing, and has a color palette))
